The Weird World of Eadweard Muybridge
Eadweard Muybridge was a peculiar and interesting character as he seemed to live a life of wild situations and incredible art that came along with it. At first glance you might assume that his head trauma at age 30 is what caused his larger than life choice and business models, however it seems Muybridge was always bound for a life under a different kind of lens. His take on camera angles and especially the people he chose to take photos and videos of was especially interesting. I liked his idea of making the camera traveling-- this showed he was interested in changing how people would capture images in the future and also facilitated himself in taking shots that others were not able to capture. He also seemed dedicated in using film to further our understanding of how bodied (both human and animal) worked. He truly seemed to bridge the gap between the two vastly different worlds of art and science. His relationship with Leland Stanford and the University of Stanford was an interesting tie that I never knew about. The intricate circuit created to capture his famous work yet again shows where he brought together science and art.
